TCFF 2024 Spotlight: Solitude
2024 marks 15 years of the Twin Cities Film Fest, which runs October 17-26 at the Marcus West End Cinema at the Shops at West End in St. Louis Park.
Nearly 150 films – including features, shorts, animation, and documentaries – will screen over the course of the festival, both in-person and online (through TCFF’s Streams platform). Additionally, directors, producers, and actors will walk the red carpet, present their films, and take part in Q&As and discussions about their work.
Over the course of TCFF 2024, we’ll be chatting with some of those filmmakers and stars to find out more about what they’re bringing to the TCFF screens.

Making its Midwest premiere at TCFF 2024, “Solitude” is another MN Connected filmed in Rush City. Jeremy Brown, who co-directed the film with Mick Strawn, and wrote it alongside Stacy Brown and T.C. De Witt, gave us a little insight into the film before it screens on October 22.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your film.
“Solitude” is a psychological horror thriller that follows a renowned social media survivalist who joins a reality TV series set in the remote wilderness. What begins as a challenge to survive alone turns into a fight for her life when she encounters a supernatural presence lurking in the shadows. The film explores themes of isolation, fear, and the primal instincts that surface when survival is at stake. With a talented cast and a haunting score, we aim to take audiences on a gripping journey that will keep them on the edge of their seats.
Q: Now tell us something about it that we might not be able to glean from the trailer or description.
One aspect that may not come across in the trailer is the deep emotional journey of Kara, our protagonist. While the film is packed with suspense and terror, it also delves into her internal struggles, exploring her fears, past traumas, and what drives her to push her limits. This emotional depth adds layers to the horror, making it not just a fight against an external entity but also a confrontation with her own psyche.
Q: If someone is only going to see one film at the Twin Cities Film Fest, why should it be this one?
“Solitude” offers a unique blend of heart-pounding suspense and thought-provoking themes that resonate on multiple levels. It's not just a horror film; it's a compelling exploration of human resilience and the fight against fear. Audiences will experience a film that keeps them guessing while also prompting them to reflect on their own fears and what it means to be truly alone. Plus, with stunning visuals and a powerful performance by our lead, it promises to be an unforgettable cinematic experience.
Q: Prior to TCFF, where has the film screened, and what has the response been so far?
Before TCFF, “Solitude” had its world premiere at our own sponsored showing at The Byrd Theatre in Richmond, VA, where it received an enthusiastic response from audiences! Viewers praised its gripping atmosphere, character depth, and innovative approach to the horror genre. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, which has only fueled our excitement for the film’s continued journey.
Q: What was it that drew you to submit your film for the Twin Cities Film Fest?
The Twin Cities Film Fest has a reputation for celebrating independent films and fostering a community of filmmakers and film lovers. As a Minnesota-based project, it feels like the perfect platform for “Solitude.” We wanted to share our story with a local audience that understands the beauty and challenges of our landscape, and we believe the festival’s supportive environment aligns beautifully with our film’s vision.
Q: What’s next for your film after this festival?
After TCFF, we plan to pursue additional festival screenings to build momentum and engage with audiences. We're also exploring distribution opportunities to make “Solitude” accessible to a wider audience through streaming platforms. We want to ensure that as many people as possible can experience the film and its unique take on horror.
